ASTRONOMY: Celebrate summer’s arrival

You can celebrate summer’s arrival and learn more about the Sun on Saturday, June 21, with a visit to the Center for Environmental and Scientific Education in the Meadowlands.

The event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., features the center’s Laura Venner talking about NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) mission. Laura will bring out special solar viewing equipment for a hands-on experience.

You’ll also learn about solar cycles, sun spots and the apparent motion of the Sun, and get a guided tour of the William McDowell Observatory, which opened earlier this year.

Check-in at the Meadowlands Environment Center (the first building on the left) in the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s headquarters at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst.

The program will be held in the Astronomy Amphitheater in the Center for Environmental and Scientific Education, a short walk away.

Participants will receive free space-weather posters, stickers, refrigerator magnets, and 3D cards and 3D glasses.

Admission is $5; free to members of the Meadowlands Environment Center.  Pre-registration preferred, walk-ins welcome.

It was a pleasure to see recent telescope photo’s of above.
I get e mails blogs from meadowlands blog showing most recent pictures taken of various wildlife and find it very enjoyable and express my thankfulness in comment section.
I like to know if it is possible to receive e mail blogs from Observatory with recent photos taken thru telescope.? For my biggest passion is astronomy, however do to poor health it has been most difficult for me to get to your Observatory to get a first hand view thru telescope like tonight missing the lunar eclipse, I hope get down there soon to view M31 which would be one of coolest things for me to see among many other things in space, If you do have a e mail blog which will have recent photos of what you view I and am sure many others would enjoy seeing the photos of what you view and this most special event of this lunar eclipse which the news ch 12 was reporting on covering use tonight about this eclipse which they said has not happened for like over 200 or 300 hundred years. So let me know if you have a e mail blog which will contain pictures, by all means please added me to list, and or tell me how to join the list, if you don’t have it hope you consider it. for I am sure there are many people who would like to make it there but can’t but would really like seeing on regular bases of recent photos taken. Thank you for posting the above very distant stars and including I. D. of them. I found it very enjoyable to view the pictures and look forward to some lunar eclipse photos and other photos of other objects you view. I hope to make it down there one night to view for myself and meet and thank you all in person.
