Laurel Hill Ospreys, You May Have a Problem

IMG_9225If you’ve followed the Peregrine Falcons at Laurel Hill, you’re probably aware that three years ago or so they were likely responsible for preventing the local Common Ravens from nesting — staking a claim months before nesting season.

Last year, they prevented a pair of Ospreys nesting on the nearby swing bridge — — staking a claim months before nesting season. On our Tuesday walk, we saw a Peregrine sitting in the Osprey nest (above) on the radio tower next to the swing bridge. Could it be … staking a claim months before nesting season, perhaps? What do you think?

A Laurel Hill Falcons Vs. Ravens post from 2011 is here.

A Peregrine and Osprey update from last spring is here.

I’ve also seen the Peregrine outside the old raven nest recently. I’m wondering if these birds used to nest on the Turnpike Bridge but gave up after the construction.
