Track New Wittpenn Bridge Deck Arrival

The Route 7 Wittpenn Bridge that crosses the Hackensack River from Kearny to Jersey City is getting a complete makeover, including a new deck scheduled to arrive via barge on July 15. How do we know the date? The State Department of Transportation has introduced a webpage that tracks the deck’s journey from Washington State. Check it out here There’s also a story on the new bridge in today’s Jersey Journal

According to the article, the new bridge will rise 70 feet above the water when closed, compared to 35 feet for the existing Wittpenn Bridge, which runs for 2,169 feet and was built in 1930.

Construction on the new span is expected to be completed in 2022.
