We had our first Bufflehead of the fall on Disposal Road this week, in the retention pond across from the AMVETS Carillon.
We included the shot of the mallard to show you just how small this female/juvenile is.
More on Buffleheads here.

Actually, I saw three female/juvenile Buffleheads over a week ago at the easternmost part of the Transco Trail. It was low tide, and they were diving in the channel than runs directly parallel to the trail on the mudflats side. (I didn’t report it because, alas, I had no camera with which to document it.) They are tiny little things.
