The Route 7 Wittpenn Bridge that crosses the Hackensack River from Kearny to Jersey City is getting a new deck, which is scheduled to arrive via barge on July 15. How do we know? The State is tracking the deck’s progress on its journey from Washington State. You can check out the Wittpenn Bridge Tracker here and an article on the new bridge in today’s Jersey Journal.
According to the story, the new bridge will rise 70 feet above the water when closed, compared to 35 feet for the existing Wittpenn Bridge, which runs for 2,169 feet and was built in 1930. Construction on the new span is expected to be completed in 2022.
