Improvements to the Shorewalk Trail and Kingsland Overlook At DeKorte Park

Please note: The NJSEA will be conducting improvements to the Kingsland Overlook and the Shorewalk Trail at DeKorte Park.  While under construction, the Kingsland Overlook Trail and the Shorewalk trail will be temporarily closed and parking at the Environment Center parking lot will be reduced.  Access to the park will remain open but it is expected that circulation may be disrupted while some components of the construction are taking place.  We apologize for any inconvenience and are asking for everyone’s cooperation and patience as this project moves forward.

DeKorte Family Joins Bergen County Audbon Society for this past Sunday’s (July 2) Nature Walk

The BCAS hosted a nature walk through DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst yesterday (Sunday, July 2) with some special participants.

Paulette Ramsey and her family joined in the great morning. Paulette’s late husband, Richard W. DeKorte, is the park’s namesake. DeKorte was a State Assemblyman who played a tremendous role in creating the then Hackensack Meadowlands Development Committee (later the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, which was then merged with the Sports and Exposition Authority).

DeKorte, who championed cleaning up the region, passed away in 1975. Paulette Ramsey has been a stalwart supporter of the Meadowlands environment. We thank Paulette and the DeKorte family for all of their efforts throughout the decades.
