Free talk and book signing, “The Nature of the Meadowlands”
Get an inside look at the new coffee-table book, "The Nature of the Meadowlands," with author Jim Wright of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. The lavishly illustrated, 128-page coffee-table book illuminates the region's natural and unnatural history — from its darkest days of a half-century ago to its environmental revival. Wright's slide-show/talk offers highlights from the book, which combines striking nature photography with rare archival images. Also on hand will be nature photographers Marco Van Brabant and Ron Shields to talk about some of their amazing images from the book. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. The talk, sponsored by the Bergen County Audubon Society, will begin at 8 p.m., following a BCAS meeting that starts at 7:30. The event will take place in the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst. To RSVP, contact Don Torino of the BCAS at greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983.
Sunday, Nov. 18, 1-2 p.m.

Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Nature Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus is one of our favorite sites — a great place to see raptors and waterfowl and those amazing ancient cedar stumps. We meet at the trail’s entrance, just off Park Plaza Drive. You can also meet us at the visitors’ parking lot at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst at 9:30 a.m. and carpool. The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute updates and weather advisories. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year. To rsvp, contact Don Torino of the BCAS greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983.
