Don’t miss an opportunity to explore the Harrier Meadow natural area in North Arlington at next Thursday’s (Oct. 27) Bergen County Audubon Society Meadowlands Nature Walk. The 70-acre natural area is normally closed to the public. We’ll be looking for warblers, flycatchers, shorebirds, egrets and other fall migrants.
The walk is from 10 am to noon. Harrier Meadow is located off Disposal Road. For more info email email@example.com or call 201-230-4983.
NJSEA staff released 13 Monarch butterflies in DeKorte Park this week. Staff had moved the caterpillars inside due to predators and the weather. They were placed in a mesh enclosure so that they could progress through the chrysalis stage and emerge as Monarchs out of harm’s way. All of the butterflies were tagged with help from Marie Longo of the Bergen County Audubon Society. By tracking Monarchs’ movements as they migrate south to Mexico, scientists can gain information to aid the unfortunately fast disappearing species.
