We know this doesn't  really qualify as nature, but we thought we would be remiss if we did not let you know….

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) will perform a “Salute to America!” – a selection of patriotic tunes, American popular music and opera favorites – on Saturday, June 27, in DeKorte Park at 7:30 p.m.

This special concert in the heart of the Meadowlands is the NJSO’s only outdoor show in Bergen County this summer. The concert is presented by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) and the Ramapo College Foundation and is part of the NJMC’s 40th Anniversary celebration.

Gates open at 5 p.m., and concertgoers are invited to bring picnics and come early to enjoy the park, its walking trails and the dozens of species of shorebirds and waterfowl that make their home there. NJMC staff will be on hand to lead nature walks, or point out the most interesting flora and fauna.

Plenty of free parking will be available nearby, and free shuttle buses will bring you to the concert site. DeKorte Park is handicapped-accessible, and handicapped parking is also available in the park near the concert site.

Tickets for a “Salute to America!” are $5, with children 17 and under free. To purchase tickets with cash or by check, call 201-460-4637. To charge tickets, call 201-684-7844. For information on Meadowlands parks, tours and programming, visit  www.njmeadowlands.gov.
