Harrier Meadow Walk this Sunday

   Don't forget: The Meadowlands Commission and  the Bergen County Audubon Society are sponsoring a  free nature walk  at Harrier Meadow in North Arlington on Sunday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m.
   Because Harrier Meadow is ordinarily closed to the public, you will need to sign a standard release to visit the site. Download it here: Download HARRIER Release

   By the way, if you are wondering what the attraction of Harrier Meadow is, be aware that the photo on the top of this blog was taken at Harrier early one August morning last year.

To get to Harrier Meadow:

Go to the entrance to DeKortePark in Lyndhurst. (Directions to DeKorte Park follow.)  After you cross the railroad tracks, bear to your right onto Disposal Road instead of going straight into DeKorte. 

You will stay on Disposal Road for a mile, with a landfill on your right and after three-tenths of a mile or so, tidal impoundments on your left. You will also pass the AMVETS Carillon, with many flags flying. Look out for the speed bumps on Disposal Road. They are often unmarked.

After roughly a mile, you will come to a stop sign. Stay to the left, pass the PSEG substation, and make a left. You are at the gate to Harrier.

To get to DeKorte Park:

From Route 3 East follow signs for 17 South Lyndhurst. After the traffic light cross Route 17 and proceed straight onto Polito Avenue; follow directions below.

From Route 3 West follow signs for 17 South Lyndhurst. Merge onto 17 South and follow it as it wraps around. At the traffic light make a Left onto Polito Avenue; follow the directions below. At the end of Polito Avenue, turn Left onto Valley Brook Avenue. After 1.2 miles, cross the railroad tracks,
