Thanks to the three-dozen nature enthusiasts who came out to DeKorte Park for this afternoon’s Earth Day Celebration! The program began with “Return of the Raptors,” an informative talk by Bergen County Audubon Society President Don Torino, who discussed how and why Eagles, Osprey and Peregrine Falcons have returned to our area, plus other raptors you might see in your backyard. The group then went on a nature walk around DeKorte, where they saw Osprey, Ruddy Ducks, Gadwalls, Great Egret and more.

Earth Day Birds
Jim Wright and Ron Shields were at DeKorte this morning and took the photos below. Ron photographed a young Bald Eagle in flight while Jim captured a Northern Pintail and the distant sillhoutee of a Glossy Ibis. Check out Jim’s post on The Celery Farm and Beyond blog here.
It’s Our Turn
Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day Everyone!!! Don’t forget to come down to DeKorte today from 1:30 to 3:30 pm for our Earth Day Celebration: Return of the Raptors. The event is rain or shine and begins with a talk in the Environment Center by the Bergen County Audubon Society on how and why Eagles, Osprey and Peregrine Falcons have returned to our area, plus other raptors you might see in your backyard. Then we’ll walk around DeKorte looking for these and other fabulous winged marvels. In the meantime, what better way to start the day than these marvelous photos that Ron Shields took yesterday at the Kearny Marsh of Glossy Ibis, an adult little blue heron and several forster’s terns.
