Thanks to the NJSEA Natural Resources team for sending this photo of a coyote they encountered while in the field earlier this week!
A big thank you to our newest blog contributor, Robert J Bulmer Jr, for his great photos taken during Tuesday’s Bergen County Audubon Society walk at Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus!
Here’s our last batch of Super Bird Sunday photos, this series from Dee De Santis. Thanks for the great photos Dee!
Dennis Cheeseman got quite the treat when he went to take photos at Mill Creek Marsh this afternoon: a Redhead Duck! The Readhead is usually found west of here in New Jersey, in closed-off bodies of water like lakes or bays. The last documented sighting of a Redhead in the Meadowlands was in 2015.
Here’s our second batch of great photos taken on Super Bird Sunday by Joe Koscielny. We’ll have a final series from Dee De Santis to round out the day. Stay tuned!
A fantastic array of birds were out at DeKorte for the BCAS Super Bird Sunday walk last weekend. Thanks to Joe Koscielny for this great display. More to come from Joe later.
Many thanks to Dave McLure for this nice Great Blue Heron sequence taken yesterday at Mill Creek Marsh!
The NJSEA Natural Resouces Management Department was out in the field yesterday when they came across an American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) at a site off Penhorn Creek in Secaucus.
The American Bittern is on the State Endangered Species list. All told there are more than 35 species in the Meadowlands region that are listed as State endangered, threatened or species of special concern. You can read more about the American Bittern here
