The Bergen County Audubon Society recently presented a check for $1,000 to the Meadowlands Museum to continue work on its Butterfly Garden.

The non-profit Meadowlands Museum, located at 91 Crane Ave. in Rutherford, works to link students of New Jersey Meadowlands history, young and old, to objects that can help them connect to and understand the history the Meadowlands area communities of today. The Museum was founded in 1960 by a group of Rutherford PTA parents.

The Meadowlands Museum’s current exhibits include “Against the Grain: Notable Women of the Meadowlands.” The Museum is open to the public on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm and by appointment. For more on the Meadowlands Museum click here

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Bergen County Audubon Society’s First Annual Dick Eisenberg Teacher Appreciation Award (formerly the BCAS Teacher Appreciation Award)!

These wonderful, well-deserving tearchers who go above and beyond to connect their students to nature and the environment are, from left to right: Allyson Kennedy of Lincoln Middle School in Kearny; Joanne Cavera of St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale; and Dr. Sarahfaye Mahon of Paramus Catholic High School.

The award has been renamed to honor the memory of a beloved former BCAS board member, longtime avid birder, educator and mentor to many.
