Our last Birding-by-Boat cruise of 2012 with the Bergen County Audubon Society is Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. We hope to see Ospreys, shorebirds, waders and plenty more.

We had a great First Sunday walk for August in DeKorte Park, with lots of great looks at Forster's Terns, peeps, Ospreys and lots of butterflies.
The walk was sponsored by the Meadowlnads Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. In all, we counted 36 species of birds and at least 10 species of butterflies.

We promised that we'd keep an eye out for butterflies on our First-
Sunday walk, and we had great luck at Jill's Butterfly Garden — recording at least 10 butterfly species and a Hummingbird Clear-winged Moth and an Ailanthus Webworm Moth.

Works in several mediums by new and emerging artists will be on display at the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s (NJMC) Flyway Gallery in 
DeKorte Park during August and September.(The work above, untitled, is by Rene Fressola.)
The exhibit, “Emerging Artists: Now and New,” is presented by the Bergen Museum of Art & Science and runs today to Friday, Sept. 28.
The show includes 40 abstract paintings, oil works, acrylics, mixed media and sculptures.
A reception for the artists with music provided by the New Horizon Symphony Chamber String Trio is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mike Britt posted the following bird report on Jersey Birds a short while ago — with highlights including 15,000 Semipalmated Sandpipers, a Blue Grosbeak (along Disposal Road).

Our first-Sunday walk for August at DeKorte Park attracted dozens of birders and hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of peeps.
The tide was coming in, covering the mud flats and pushing the birds into 
the Shorebird Pool, where water levels have been reduced for the next eight days.
Repeat: Shorebird Pool water levels will be lower for the next eight days.
Highlights included Short-billed Dowitchers, an estimated gazillion Semipalmated Sandpipers, a Black-crowned Night Heron and fishing Ospreys.
We also had some great butterflies (Fiery Skipper, Painted Lady, eyc.) and a Hummingbird Clear-winged Moth.
The free walk was sponsored by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission of the Bergen County Audubon Society. Thanks to all who participated! We will post a full list later in the week.
Our latest Focus on the Meadowlands for the wildnewjersey.tv blog features a Diamondback Terrapin photographed on one of the Meadowlands Commission's pontoon-boat cruises (available to the public), and a most-unusual sign at DeKorte Park, and Plume Moth (in honor of National Moth Week last week).
