On Tuesday, we posted an item about a mystery object brought in by John and Peggy Koney of Ringwood. They found it on their lawn under a tree. It resembled a very small brown derby, closed top and bottom, clearly hollow — it was as light as a feather.
The Koneys wondered what it could be. We asked for help, and we have gotten requests for other views of this odd object. Peggy sent in photos from other angles. We hope these help. (Thanks, Peggy!)
Any ideas? Please post your answer in the "Comments" section below.
Can you give me some measurements?
I am figuring it’s about five inches across and four inches high…
Thanks…
it’s fungi!
I saw another of the same thing at Glenhurst Meadows in Warren last week. It was spongy and about the size Jim mentions, or possibly a little larger. When I stepped on it it flattened then expanded back to its original size. Definitely seemed like some kind of fungus, but not like anything I’d seen before.
Looks a bit like some of those very big dried up puffballs. Check out the photo in the top of this link, which is somewhat similar.

I drop a leave a response each time I like a post on a website or if I have something to valuable to
contribute to the discussion. Usually it is caused by the sincerness communicated in the article I read.
And after this article More on the Mystery Object | The Meadowlands Nature Blog.
I was excited enough to post a thought 🙂 I actually do have a few questions for you if it’s allright.
Is it just me or does it appear like a few of the remarks
come across like written by brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are writing at additional
online sites, I’d like to follow anything new you have to post.
Would you list every one of your shared sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
