New NJSEA Fish Study Online

The Meadowlands Blog often features posts about the abundant bird life found in the Meadowlands, but today we feature a somewhat “fishy” story.

The NJSEA has released its most recent Fisheries Inventory study. The comprehensive report details findings of NJSEA naturalists who spent 2013-2015 taking inventory of the diversity of and numbers of fish species found in the Meadowlands District portion of the Hackensack River and some of its tributaries.

The researchers also monitored the water quality of the river during their work. This report compares the recent fishery collections to those done by the NJMC in 2001-2003 and the HMDC’s original fisheries inventory of 1987-1988.  Read the full report here
