Join the Meadowlands Commission and Bergen County Audubon Society on Sunday (Dec. 1) at 10 a.m. for the NJMC’s Jim Wright’s short talk and slide show on “Winter Raptors of the Meadowlands” in the Meadowlands Environment Center, followed by a walk along nearby Disposal Road, Raptor Capital of the known universe (give or take).
Following the walk, the BCAS’ Don Torino will give a talk and side show on Losen Slote Creek Park in Little Ferry, arguably the eighth Wonder of the World.
Full listing follows.
FIRST SUNDAY WALK AND TALK: Sunday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. This free two-hour program at DeKorte Park features a short talk and slide show on the raptors and winter waterfowl of the Meadowlands by the NJMC’s Jim Wright, followed by a walk along legendary Disposal Road. We’ll meet just inside the Environment Center. The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute updates and weather advisories. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year. To rsvp, contact Don Torino of the BCAS at greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983.
BONUS TALK ON LOSEN SLOTE CREEK PARK: After the Sunday, Dec. 1, walk, please stay around for a talk and slide show by Don Torino of the BCAS as he presents the wonders of Losen Slote — one of the Meadowlands under-appreciated gems and one of our favorite places to have guided walks.
