These crabs were seen in Saw Mill Creek Wildlife Management Area, by the Saw Mill Creek Trail, earlier this week.
In the 40s there were thousands of crabs in the Hackensack river and Berrys creek. There was a boat rental by the bridge on the plank road. We often rented a row boat and rowed to the rt 3 bridge over Berrys creek.Route 3 was called S-3 then. On the south side of the bridge was a marooned barge. Inside the barge were thousands of crabs. We either used traps or a net and hand lines. We often came home with a bushel of crabs and it was a fun sun burned day for us kids.
