Ron reports: The coots are back!!!
The attached image from Wednesday give evidence to their recent arrival in the Kearny Marsh.
In addition, the almost perfect camouflage of this green-winged teal is comprised only by its brightly colored wing patch.
Needless to say, the change of seasons has been extremely exciting.
The Coots aren’t exclusive to Kearny Marsh. I saw a lone Coot showing juvenile plumage on October 10th at Mill Creek Marsh. It was not at all shy, and quite comfortable with our presence. The gawky feet were visible and quite distinctive before it paddled, duck-like, into the water.
