Barn Swallow Thinking About Nesting?

DSCN0066-001
As some folks know, Barn Swallows like to nest in a certain spot in DeKorte Park where folks can actually see the nest.

As of last week, this was the closest we have seen to activity there. The Barn Swallows typically nest under the Marshview Pavilion.

We already have a design for this wonderful new place — with plants including Bayberry, Buttonbush, Spicebush, Blog-header2Red Twig Dogwood, Inkberry "Shamrock," Nannyberry and Cornus Seneca.

Help the legendary Meadowlands Marsh Hawks!

They are preparing for their second World Series of Birding this Saturday. They will be competing in the county-wide category, trying to see as many species of birds in Bergen County in 24 hours as they can  — and raise money for a new native butterfly/bird garden planned for the Carillon area on Disposal Road.

Last year, the Marsh Hawks raised hundreds of dollars for bird research in the Meadowlands.

* On Tuesday, may 15, we visit the Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus, then drive to Laurel Hill County Park for lunch and a look for the ravens.
