Everybody thinks that Tree Swallows are so sweet and nice and beautiful. Not necessarily so.

You should’ve seen them at Mill Creek Marsh yesterday. I was out there for a nest box survey, and every single swallow in the marsh was either mating or eating (about 2/3 of the swallows were eating, the rest were mating). I only saw one fight, though–one male jumped another while the second male was mating, and they had a little dogfight around the nest box. The second male eventually chased off the interloper.
