Greetings! I’d like to introduce myself as the new keeper of the Meadowlands Nature Blog. My name is Brian Aberback and I began maintaining the blog in early July. In the coming weeks and months I look forward to continuing to populate the blog with Meadowlands-related posts, including bird and other wildlife sightings, nature photos and news.
We’ll highlight the Meadowlands’ parks, wetlands, gardens and the region’s overall natural beauty. NJSEA naturalists and scientists will provide field work reports, and we’ll keep you posted on news about our public programs, including our great twice-monthly free guided nature walks with the Bergen County Audubon Society.
For all the birders out there, I must admit that I am a novice. But I am also eager to learn – it helps that I worked and was office mates with Jim Wright for 7 years. I have also been pleased to team with the BCAS on many of our joint public programs.
I encourage everyone to reach out to me with any news, sightings and photos so that they can be posted on the blog, and to share the posts with your friends so others can learn about all the great natural resources and beauty the Meadowlands has to offer. Ideas for posts are always welcome.
I look forward to this opportunity to help convey all the great nature happenings in the Meadowlands. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I want to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Brian Aberback

Welcome Brian!
Hi Brian – excellent nature blogging in New Jersey!
Asking for a favour from you and your followers from across the pond. Wildlife in Europe is under attack from lawmakers. The European Union is looking at reviewing 2 key laws (called the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive) which have helped to increase the populations of a number of at-risk bird and animal species since they were introduced. We think these laws should be safeguarded, not undermined and need as many people as possible to respond to a public consultation, which closes this Friday. More details are available here: http://www.tiny.cc/naturealert – every voice counts!
