We were saddned to learn that Rutherford native Calvin Spann, one of the Tuskegee Airmen, the trailblazing group of African-American military pilots during World War II, died Sunday at his home in Texas. Spann was the subject of a Meadowblog post in 2009. He told us that growing up in Rutherford inspired him to fly. “Planes from Teterboro Airport took off right over my house,” Spann said.
