The next seven days are chock-a-block with birding-related events at DeKorte, beginning with the last "Birding for Beginners" class at 1 p.m. at the Environment Center.

Tuesday is a free guided Harrier Meadow walk and banding demonstration at 10 a.m.

Wednesday is a free talk, "Birds of the Meadowlands," at 8 p.m. at the Environment Center.

Next Friday is a free Earth Day walk at 10 a.m., beginning outside the Environment Center.

Birding for Beginners
This free two-hour Birding for Beginners class starts with a short session on birding basics at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst at 1 p.m., followed by a 90-minute walk in surrounding DeKorte Park. We’ll look for swallows, killdeer, waterfowl and other birds. The event is run the Bergen County Audubon Society and hosted by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission. Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Bird Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour guided nature walk will take us to the legendary Harrier Meadow  in North Arlington. The 70-acre site, usually off limits to the public, features ponds and tidal impoundments and birds aplenty – including a bird-banding demonstration.  We meet at 10 a.m. at the entrance to Harrier Meadow on Disposal Road. You can also meet us at the visitors’ parking lot at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst at 9:30 a.m. and we can carpool. The walk is run by the N.J. ‘Birds of the Meadowlands’ Talk
Jim Wright, who keeps this blog for the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, will present a free talk and slide show on the birds of the Meadowlands as part of the Bergen County Audubon Society’s monthly meeting, which will take place at the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park. The talk will feature some unusual and once-endangered birds, along with some nifty color photos that Jim has taken in the Meadowlands in the past three years. Jim will also include photos of other critters he has seen along the river and its marshes  — from Diamondback Terrapins to Fiddler Crabs. Earth Day Bird Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour nature walk is part of the Meadowlands Commission’s Earth Day celebration at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. The walk starts outside the Meadowlands Environment Center, and runs from 10 a.m. We’ll walk around the square-mile park, looking for spring arrivals and other birds. The walk is run by the N.J.
