Two More Free February Walks

1-DSCN2796Our next two free walks with the Bergen County Audubon Society are at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at Mill Creek Marsh (above) and at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Harrier Meadow.

The Valentine’s Day walk is part of the Great Backyard Bird Count and offers great looks at wintering waterfowl. The following Tuesday’s walk allows folks to visit the Legendary Harrier Meadow, ordinarily closed to the public.

Details and some bird pix from a walk last winter at Mill Creek follow.

Sunday: Free Super Bird Sunday Walk

FinalEgretFootball_MedOur next walk is a doozy — our fifth annual Super Bird Sunday walk at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, the same day as that big game at MetLife Stadium.

This time we are holding the walk at Losen Slote Creek Park in an effort to stay as far away from the P1080128Meadowlands Sports Complex as possible.

This is Super Bird Sunday V, and we will be offering prizes to the first folks who — after the walk starts — identify a bird that is named after an NFL team (or more likely, vice versa!)…

The person who is the first tp spot anĀ  Eagle, Raven, Cardinal, Falcon, etc., will receive a T-shirt of their choice and a limited edition print of Tom Yezerski’s Osprey (Seahawk) print.

Directions to Losen Slote can be found on the right-hand column of this blog.

If it thaws as expected, wear mud-resistant boots!
