Snowy Owls@DeKorte! But Be Careful!

Ray Gilbert got some nifty shots of the Snowy Owls in action at DeKorte last weekend. At one point on Saturday, there were four Snowy Owls in view from the Transco Trail.  (Thanks, Ray!)

We will post DeKorte Snowy Owl shots by Muhammad Faizan tomorrow.

We did not see any Snowies today, but it was fairly windy, and the Transco Trail and other trails are covered with crusty snow that makes walking difficult.

If you go looking for the owls on the Transco Trail, take note.

Use common sense. Do not go out on the ice — it is a tidal mudflat,  never safe for humans.

Do not go up on the embankment (berm), for a “better” look. It is snow-covered and potentially slippery. Stay on the trail at all times.

A spotting scope is a good idea — the owls can be distant.

Congrats to everyone who got the right answers — Song Sparrow, Fox Sparrow and Horned Lark.
