Don’t miss Monday’s American Woodcock Walk at 6:45 p.m. at Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus.
Before we look for the woodcocks and their amazing peenting and courtship displays, we’ll check on the Common Ravens’ nest and see what we can see along the Hackensack River.
If you don’t know where Laurel Hill is, you can meet the NJMC’s Jim Wright in the DeKorte Park visitor’s parking lot before 6:15 p.m.
Full details follow. (Thanks to Chris Takacs for the photo!)Monday, March 17, 6:45 p.m.
Woodcock Walk at Laurel Hill with the NJMC and BCASThis free hour-long walk features a 30-minute walk around the park, followed by a low-keyed search for American woodcocks in one section of Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus. We will also look for the Laurel Hill ravens, the black-crowned night herons and any other interesting birds we can find. We’ll meet in the ballfields parking lot at Laurel Hill at 6:45 p.m., or you can meet in DeKorte Park’s visitor’s parking lot and follow the NJMC’s Jim Wright — he’ll be leaving DeKorte promptly at 6:15 p.m. Dress for the weather — it can get especially cold and windy along the river! Check meadowblog.net for last-minute weather updates. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year (if you haven’t done so already). To rsvp, contact Don Torino of the BCAS at greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983. If you plan to meet in the DeKorte park parking lot, contact Jim Wright at jim.wright@njmeadowlands.gov or call him at 201-469-7349.
