We visited Harrier Meadow with NJMC naturalists last week and saw all sorts of neat stuff — including a Muskrat lodge (above), pheasant tracks in the snow, a small-rodent tunnel, a carp skull embedded in ice and raccoon scat.

We found this scat atop the Muskrat lodge. We are thinking it is raccoon — any other suggestions?

I once found coyote scat atop a beaver lodge. Canids like to mark conspicuous places with their poop, and I would say the hair might indicate fox or coyote. depends on the diameter–coyote scat is usually 3/8 to 1 3/8″ in diameter, whereas fox scat is usually 5/16 to 3/4″ in diameter.
