4 Sora at DeKorte!

Ray Duffy reports:

"I did a walk around DeKorte [Sunday] evening. There were 4 Sora milling around, 3 adults, 1 juvenile after 5:45 pm.

"2 were near the first 'classroom' area across the channel on the edge of the phragmites.

"The second was in the East Pool section along the phragmites line, viewable from the section of the boardwalk leading from/to the Transco Trail.

"There was a juvenile Sora bathing near the gazebo before it took off toward the phragmites island."   (Thanks, Ray!)

Tomorrow: Walk, Bird-Banding @ Harrier Meadow

P1020325-1
Our next free guided nature walk is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. in the legendary Harrier Meadow in North Arlington 1-1-banding1 — and it features a not-to-be-missed bird-banding demonstration by NJMC naturalist Mike Newhouse.

The 70-acre site — usually off limits to the public — features ponds and tidal impoundments and shorebirds aplenty.

Butterflies and dragonflies, too, with a little luck.

The weather sounds iffy  — lightning, thunder or heavy rains cancel. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute updates and weather advisories.

The event is sponsored by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Full listing follows.

‘Lost Bird Project’: A Final Word

Artist_ToddMcGrainThanks to all who attended the special screening of "The Lost Bird Project" in the Meadowlands last night.

The turnout was terrific, and the audience seemed to be on the same wave length as the film itself.

We wish to thank the fimmakers and sculptor Todd McGrain (left) for being a part of this wonderful event.

Cinematographer Scott Anger posted on "The Lost Bird Project's" Facebook Page:

"Thanks to everyone who attended the special screening of The Lost Bird Project at the Meadowlands Environment Center last night. We appreciate your support!!"

The website for "The Lost Bird Project" is here.

Jim W. Is on the Mend

Jim Wright, who keeps this blog, asked that we post a quick note that he is doing fine after an unfortunate mishap at work yesterday.

He is sorry he missed last night's "Lost Bird Project" and the chance to talk with everyone.

Thanks to all who made last night's event such a huge success — beginning with Todd McGrain and the "Lost Bird Project" team.
