An American Avocet was observed at Sawmill Creek Trail Friday 2 August from ~2:00 – 4:09 PM.
I first saw it It below the power lines and after heron survey went to other side of pool to get closer.
Please keep an eye out — and give Jim Wright a call at 201-469-7349 if it reappears.
A big thanks to the more than three dozen folks (including the shady characters abive) who participated in this morning’s First-Sunday-of-the-Month walk in DeKorte Park, brought to you by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society,
Bird highlights included a Bald Eagle, a Peregrine, and some arriving shorebirds. Butterfly highlights included a Mourning Cloak, a Summer Azure and a nice fresh Monarch.
Later this week, we will publish the full list of 11 species of butterflies and 31 species of birds that were seen.
Valley Brook Ave. near DeKorte Park is open again, but a few new bumps.
