Meadowlands Events This Week

Each Monday, we will post the upcoming events for the Meadowlands through the upcoming weekend.

This week’s events are a free talk about comets and asteroids for ages 8-12 next Saturday,  a free guided  nature walk at Mill Creek Marsh on Sunday morning, and watercolor pencil classes for ages 6-12 on Sunday afternoon.

Comets and Asteroids:
Do Rocks Really Fall from the Sky? – For ages 8-12
Join Dr. John Sloan, Director of the William D. McDowell Observatory, as he gives a non-technical overview of comets and asteroids.  Learn about comets that have been observed throughout history and the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.  You will be introduced to some of the first close-up photographs of asteroid-like objects!

Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.
First-Sunday-of-the Month Walk with the NJMC and BCAS

This free two-hour walk of Mill Creek Marsh in Secaucus features raptors, waterfowl and fall migrants. We’ll meet at the marsh entrance at 10 a.m. (directions are on meadowblog.net in the left-hand column). The walk is run by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute weather updates. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year. Sunday, Oct. 6, 1 – 3 p.m.
Watercolor Pencils for Kids: Signs of Fall – For ages 6-12
Let your kids capture the colors of the season with watercolor pencils! We’ll show how to create fun drawings of falling leaves and then paint with “no mess” color.  Supplies provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
$10 per child (no fee for adults)
