We have been getting great birds in Harrier Meadow the past few weeks.

See for yourself on Tuesday when Mike Newhouse of the Meadowlands Commission will present a bird-banding demonstration, followed by September's Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month walk.

As of Friday noon, the American Avocet was still there, next to a Caspian Tern (above). Also present — a Northern Harrier, several Am. Kestrels and a pair of Peregrines.

Tuesday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m. 

Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Nature Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour guided nature walk will take us to the legendary Harrier Meadow in North Arlington. The 70-acre site, usually off limits to the public, features ponds and tidal impoundments and birds aplenty.  If weather permits, we may have a bird-banding demonstration by an NJMC naturalist. We meet at 10 a.m. at the entrance to Harrier Meadow on Disposal Road. You can also meet us at the visitors’ parking lot at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst at 9:40 a.m. and we can carpool.  The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute updates and weather advisories.
