Bird Report: Sunday DeKorte Warblers

Julie McCall writes: "I decided to head  to DeKorte & Disposal Rd.
for "a few hours" since the radar had looked pretty active the night before.  I had a goal of 35-40 species.
"I also set the ridiculous goal of 10 warbler species, since I'm trying to learn warblers this year and I haven't had more than 6 in a day. I downgraded that goal to '7' around 11 a.m., and then to 'just let me get 6' by noon."
Julie's list of 11.5 warblers and the rest of her report are on the "jump."

"Around 12:15, someone pointed out a stunned warbler on the ground in front of the entrance to the Environmental Center.  It was a Mourning Warbler, and as we guarded it, we hoped we wouldn't have to mourn it.  About 20 minutes after it hit the glass, it got up and flew away.
"From there, things only got better.  I ended up staying all day, and finished with 11.5 warbler species for the day!  (The .5 was a waterthrush, but in the spotty shade and dense shrubbery, I couldn't make out Louisiana or Northern.)  It's not a lot compared to some folks, but half of these were life birds for me. 🙂
"Warblers:  Yellow, Common Yellowthroat, Magnolia, Mourning, Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll, Yellow-rumped, American Redstart, Wilson's, Canada, Northern Parula.  A waterthrush.

I was having such a good run with warblers that I all but ignored the shorebirds.  I finished the day with 50 identified species, half of a waterthrush, an unidentified flycatcher, and, I think, the beginnings
of warbler neck."  (Thanks, Julie!)
