South Bergenite Profile of ‘Meadowlands’ Author

MeadowlandsThe latest edition of The South Bergenite has a nice profile of the author of the new children's book "Meadowlands," Thomas F. Yezerski.

The profile, by Staff Writer Daniel O'Keefe, provides insights to Yezerski's background and how the book came to be.

Signed copies of the book are on sale at the Tidelands Gift Shop at the Environment Center in DeKorte Park.

Tom Yezerski will be reading from his book and talking about it in a free children-oriented event at the Environment Center on Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m.

The Revamped Butterfly Garden

P1100452
The Jill Ann Ziemkiewicz Butterfly Garden at DeKorte Park received a P1100470 major facelift this spring, with new brick walkways, new plantings and a new memorial plaque to Jill Ann.

The fountain is working again, and yesterday we saw a male Orchard Oriole bathing there.

We hope you'll come down to DeKorte and see for yourself soon.

The Meadowlands Commission and Bergen Audubon are sponsoring a free Butterflies for Beginners class and nature walk on Sunday, June 12, at 1 p.m.

A South Bergenite column about the garden from last summer is here.
