Several birders saw the American Bittern today by the Marsh Discovery Trail and pointed it out to Dennis Cheeseman, who got this shot…
Says Dennis: "[Saw it from] the blind that goes out towards the turnpike. On the marsh Discovery Trail. The one in the middle between the east and north pools, I must say thanks again to the birders that found it." (Thanks, Dennis!)
I’ve been down almost every day since the last sighting trying to find it. Guess I’ll keep trying ….
I saw it today, very early in the morning.
It was seen for an extended period near dusk out by the Ruddy Duck blind on the 4th. The bird was hunting very close to us, and seemed fairly tame and oblivious to our presence. Chris T. set his camera to video and recorded the sighting (seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/96567639@N00/6819809793/in/photostream).
A look through a scope revealed a distant Eurasian Teal in the North Pool around the same time.
