Join us on our First-Sunday-of-the-Month walk on April 1 as we look for Great Auks, Passenger Pigeons and Heath Hens at DeKorte Park. We might even see a Dodo (above). Did someone mention that it's April's Fools Day?
Seriously, in the spirit of the occasion, we will be putting some decoys out along the Marsh Discovery Trail, with a valuable prize to anyone who sees up to five and ID's the most correctly. (Keep in mind this is April Fools Day.)
And we will look for some real live wild birds, we promise.
The two-hour walk begins at 10 a.m. inside the Meadowlands Environment Center — please sign in!

Special April’s Fool Bird Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
Our first Sunday-of-the-month guided walk at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst features a new birding challenge: While we look for birds along the recently reopened Marsh Discovery Trail, birders can quietly make note of any decoys they see along the way – and ID them if possible. Winner receives a possibly valuable prize. The group will also walk around other sections of the square-mile-park, looking for spring arrivals, Bald Eagles and other birds. The walk meets inside the Meadowlands Environment Center. The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute weather updates. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year. To rsvp, contact Don Torino of the BCAS at greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983.
