One of our in-house experts agrees with reader Janet T, who thinks its a Honey Locust seed pod. Another says it’s a Black Locust pod.
After viewing the video below, we are leaning toward Honey Locust.

Definitely honey locust–black locust pods are short and straight, like flattened pea pods.
For me the telltale sign is the pointed end. Honeylocust (one word) pods end in a long point, whereas Black Locust (two words) are rounded. So if you find a small flat pod, you can still see the difference.
