* The Great Backyard Bird Count Walk at Mill Creek Marsh (above), Secaucus, on Friday, Feb. 15.

* A free two-hour guided nature walk in Harrier Meadow on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Full details follow.

4th Annual “Super Bird Sunday” Nature Walk w/NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour guided nature walk starts just outside DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. We will walk along the base of the  remediated Kingsland Landfill, looking for wintering waterfowl and other birds of interest – with great prizes awarded to any participant who is the first to spot a bird that has the same name as an NFL team – raven, falcon, eagle, cardinal and seahawk (osprey, but good luck on that one). The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute weather updates. You will have to sign a standard liability release that is good for NJMC/BCAS events throughout the year. To rsvp, contact Don Torino of the BCAS at greatauk4@aol.com or 201-230-4983.

Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month Bird Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour guided nature walk will take place at Harrier Meadow in North Arlington, a 70-acre restored wetlands area usually closed to the public. We’ll walk around the site, looking for wintering waterfowl, raptors and other birds. This has been a good spot to see Bald eagles as well. We’ll meet at the entrance to Harrier Meadow at 10 a.m. — or join us in the first parking lot at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst by 9:40 a.m. and we can carpool.
