Attention, Amateur Photographers: The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) is seeking entries for its 2009 amateur photography contest, “The Meadowlands: 40 Years of Progress,” as part of the Commission’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.
Submissions should reflect the beauty of the Meadowlands as seen in its places, people and wildlife.
Participants may submit up to three entries, in color or black and white. A committee of NJMC judges will select the three entries that best represent the beauty and progress of the Meadowlands District, and the winners will be announced at the Nov. 23 commission meeting.
Prizes are $300 for first-place, $150 for second-place and $75 for third-place. The winning photos, and other entries, will be displayed at the NJMC’s Flyway Gallery during December.

The contest is open to anyone, regardless of residence, but photos must be taken within the Meadowlands District, and must be clearly identified as coming from one of the District’s unique natural areas, or reflect one of the District’s 14 municipalities. Photographs that do not showcase the Meadowlands District will not be considered.
The Meadowlands District includes parts of Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Little Ferry, Lyndhurst, Moonachie, North Arlington, Ridgefield, Rutherford, South Hackensack, Teterboro, Jersey City, Kearny, North Bergen and Secaucus.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. Entry forms and contest rules are available on the Commission’s Web site, www.njmeadowlands.gov, and at Commission headquarters in Lyndhurst’s DeKorte Park. Submissions should include an entry form and photographic prints, as specified in the rules.

OFFICIAL RULES:
1.) Entries should portray the beauty of the Meadowlands as seen in, but not limited to, its landscapes, wildlife, people and community.
2.) All entries must be identified as being taken in the Meadowlands District by indicating
specific location of subject. The Meadowlands District includes Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Little Ferry, Lyndhurst, Moonachie, North Arlington, Ridgefield, Rutherford, South Hackensack, Teterboro, Jersey City, Kearny, North Bergen and Secaucus.
3.) The contest is open to amateur photographers only. Prizes will be awarded: First Place, $300; Second Place, $150; Third Place, $75.
4.) The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Entries received after the
deadline will be returned unopened.
5.) All photographs must have been taken by the person entering the contest. Please do
not submit transparencies or digital files. Entries can be in black and white or color with a
minimum size of 8×10 inches and maximum size of 11×14 inches. All entries must be submitted
unframed and, if smaller than 11×14 inches, mounted on a 11×14 inch foam core or matt board suitable for framing. The NJMC supplies 11x 14 inch frames for the exhibiting of the entries. At
the judges request, photographers may be required to submit original transparencies,
negatives or digital files prior to finalizing contest results.
6.) Entries are judged on originality, composition, technical quality and artistic merit. The
decision of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Judges Committee is final.
7.) There is no entry fee. Entrants may submit up to three prints. A copy of the entry form should be firmly affixed to the back of each submission.
8.) Winners will be announced at the Nov. 23 commission meeting.
9.) All entries must be available for exhibit at the New Jersey Meadowlands
Commission Flyway Gallery for the month of December 2009.
10.) By entering, participants warrant that his or her entry materials are original, that they
do not infringe on any third party’s rights, and that the participant has obtained any
necessary permissions from any third party if a third party or third party’s property
appears in the photograph.
11.) By entering the contest, all participants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive
license to the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission to reproduce, distribute, display,
and adapt the entries (along with a name credit) in connection with the promotion of the
New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, in any media now or hereafter known.
12.) If you would like your entry to be returned, you must enclose the appropriate stamped,
self-addressed envelope.
13.) New Jersey Meadowlands Commission employees, judges and their families are not
eligible to enter the contest.
