Spectacular photos of Bald Eagles, owls, hawks and other wildlife will be on display at the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) Flyway Gallery during June and July.

The exhibit, “Herb Houghton Wildlife Photography,” runs HHoughton1redufrom today (Monday, June 6) through Friday, July 29.

A reception for the artist is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Houghton has photographed hundreds of species of  birds, butterflies, mammals and marine life up and down the East Coast and in Mexico.

His Flyway Gallery show features stunning  photographs of Bald Eagles in mid-flight and Snowy Owls (above) and Black Skimmers skimming waterways in search of prey.

HHoughton2reduMany of Houghton’s  photos were taken in the local area, including DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst, the home of the NJMC, the Celery Farm in Allendale, and Palisades Interstate Park. The show also includes photographs of Atlantic Puffins, butterflies, various shorebirds, and minks, beavers, and Black Bears.

A Franklin Lakes native and Vernon resident, Houghton is a dedicated wildlife enthusiast who volunteers for the New Jersey and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

He is a member of the New Jersey Audubon Society, and his images have graced the cover of the Society’s magazine twice in the past two years.

To view Houghton’s work and learn more about the photographer, you can visit his website, www.herbhoughton.com. Several of Houghton’s wildlife photography books will be available for sale at his reception.

The Flyway Gallery is located in the Meadowlands Environment Center, in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, excluding holidays. DeKorte Park encompasses one-square-mile of wetlands, nature trails and water views – framed by the New York City skyline – and is a great place for bird watching and enjoying nature in general.

The photos were so clear and stunning. You will really appreciate the beauty of each bird and it reminds me to take good care of their natural habitat so that my children’s children could still enjoy God’s creation.
