Sand Wasps as Predators

Hope Abrams noticed that the Sand Wasps on DeKorte Park's Teal Pool beach were bringing prey into their nesting holes — snacks for their larvae.

Hope thinks the prey in these photos may be some sort of shield bug. Any thoughts?

You would think from the photo that it is a Cicada Killar and prey, but the photo is deceiving. This is a sand wasp — way smaller than a Cicada Killer.

After turning onto Pleasant View Terrace West, go about 100 yards, and marsh entrance will be on your left.
MONK PARAKEETS, Ridgefield
When you reach Railroad Avenue, head south under Hendricks Causeway Bridge. Park car near the bridge and listen; Monk Parakeets live in nests on underside of the bridge.
KEARNY MARSH, Kearny
Camman Drive loops around Gunnell Oval; the marsh is to the east of the easternmost corner of the drive. You can launch kayaks and canoes at this location.
Losen Slote Creek Park, Little Ferry
On Mehrhof Road, turn right just before the DPW garage. Plenty of parking straight ahead and to the right.
