Want to get outside and get some exercise before the big game? Don't miss the third-annual SuperBird Sunday guided walk, a free event that takes place at DeKorte Park at 10 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.

The two-hour walk, sponsored by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and Bergen County Audubon Society, includes valuable prizes for the first person to see a bird that an NFL team is named for — Raven, Cardinal, Eagle, Falcon or Seahawk. (Not to worry: legendary birder Bob O'Link, pictured above, will not be on this walk.)

Following the walk will be a free talk and artist's reception for Thomas F. Yezerski, the author/illustrator of the acclaimed children's book "Meadowlands: A Wetlands Survival Story." A link to that post is here.

Third Annual “Super Bird Sunday” Nature Walk with NJMC and BCAS
This free two-hour guided nature walk starts outside the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst and runs from 10 a.m. We’ll walk around the square-mile park, looking for wintering waterfowl and other birds of interest – with great prizes awarded to any participant who is the first to spot a bird that has the same name as an NFL team – raven, falcon, eagle, cardinal and seahawk (osprey, but good luck on that one this time of year). The walk is run by the N.J. Meadowlands Commission and the Bergen County Audubon Society. Check meadowblog.net for last-minute weather updates. Bonus Event: Talk, Signing and Gallery Show by “Meadowlands” Children’s Author
Prize-winning author and artist Thomas F. Yezerski, whose stunning book “Meadowlands: A Wetlands Survival Story” was on several 2011 “Ten Best” lists, is exhibiting the illustrations from the book in the DeKorte Park’s  Flyway Gallery through the end of March. Hear Tom give a short talk and slide show on the book, have Tom inscribe a copy for you, and look at the original illustrations up-close. This free family-friendly event is sponsored by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and Bergen County Audubon Society. The Meadowlands Environment Center is located in DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst. Signed copies of the book are available at a special discounted price at the MEC’s Tideland Treasures Gift Shop.
